Teaching Indian cookery classes from home

Hi,
Me and my Indian friend are thinking about teaching people how to cook Indian meals from her home.
She is from India and knows how to cook authentic food. It's delicious! We are thinking of doing classes on 2 evenings a week, teaching a maximum of 2 people at a time, to comfortably fit us all in the kitchen.
How much would you be prepared to pay for 2 hour session?
What do you all think of this idea? What health and safety issues should we be aware of?
Thanks

I would love to do this, I have Indian friends who cook amazing food. They have offered to teach me but as they are not really close I didn't go for it (but am kicking myself now)
There would definitely be H&S issues but think your local council could tell you more. It may be different if you tutor in their home but not sure. Personally this is something I would really love to do, couldn't afford to though so hopefully someone with some disposable income will have some input soon.
Good Luck with it though.0 -
Environmental Health at the local council would probably be the first step. They will be able to tell you what rules & regs there are for this sort of enterprise.
Sounds like a brilliant idea, I wouldn't have a clue on pricing or what people would be prepared to pay, I'm very poor so can't even afford a takeaway let alone lessons.
Good luck with it.0 -
I know i would like one to one cooking lessons rather than a course at college and i like a good indian"red sky at night angel delight, red sky in the morning...ANGEL DELIGHT!!0

You would have to have a food safety cert or be able to prove you have the knowledge, you will also need to have your kitchen inspected by the local council. There would need to be insurance etc to get also. Call your local council food people, they will be able to tell you. You have to register as a food business also.0
