    I don't know whether you will manage the same good luck as I did when I advertised for a 3/4 'cello in the local paper, for my daughter. I had a phone call from a farmer on the other side of the county who was selling his son's and he let me take it away to be appraised. It needed a lot of work which we had done, but we ended up with a beautiful instrument for about £400 after repair which was worth at least twice that. There must be thousands of discarded violins around, but I wonder how many will be really good ones?
