Want a new duvet - how much do I need to spend to get a decent one?

If you'd asked me two or three years ago I'd have said exactly the same as you. Then I bought a 'luxury' duvet - can't remember what combination of feather/down, etc it is now - and now I wouldn't agree. They're much lighter weight whilst at the same time feeling warmer because they trap the air. Mine's made by Sandersons and is washable.
Which brings me to my recommendation. Get yourself down to TKMaxx/Homesense for high quality duvets at a good price. I think you'll probably spend £30-40 there but you may have to keep popping in as the stock tends to fluctuate.
I finally bought a more expensive Fogarty duvet last year (synthetic filling, feathers are bad for asthma) and I really notice the difference too. Much warmer and it hasn't gone flat and thin either. I think Debenhams have them on half price at the moment and I'd highly recommend them, both the Fogarty duvets and Debenhams.0 -
We succumbed this winter to a duck and goose down duvet. It cost £87 for an all weather/season one in Kingsize, but the difference in quality is immediately apparent. Our new duvet is sewn in square pockets, so all of the down stays exactly where it should, plus when you make the bed and give the duvet a shake, it immediately plumps up and looks new. I also find that being down it cuddles you in, whereas the synthetic duvets tend to lie over your body.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
