I am sure many people other than myself have at some time wanted their purchase of a Blu-ray player to be one that is possible to play region A blurays when desired. It's one of the reasons I had not yet succumbed to getting one, many of the titles we wanted to buy were only out on blu-ray and there are some which are not region B. I was looking at getting a Panasonic - one I wanted was £89 and it was possible to send it away and for a further £110 have it chipped. I am so glad I waited...
Tesco Direct have currently got the Technika BRSS10 for £49.97 plus delivery. I used a code from their homepage for £10 off when you spend £50 (which it is over when you factor in shipping) and I got the thing for £44.97 on Friday night, and it was delivered Monday lunchtime.
It works great, you don't have to connect to internet if you don't mind the configure message when you turn on each time. Other than BluRay the HDMI upscaling for DVDs works great too, compared with my Panasonic DVD player the lighting is enhanced very naturally, looks great! I've set it to region 0 for DVD and I can see where to change it for region A Blu-Ray when the need arises. I'll link/credit where I found out about this offer and the Hack code below:
