Can I transfer private pension into my LGPS?

Hi

I have an old private pension and the transfer value is 100%, so no fee. I have a local government final salary pension which I have been in for just over 16 years, can I transfer this old private pension in and if so would it be beneficial to do so?

I have just over 6 years to retirement.

The value of the old pension is less than £5,000.

You can only transfer pensions into the LGPS if you are within the first 12 months of joining. You are 15 years too late!

Some employers have discretion to over-rule that restriction.

I had my doubts that I could transfer it in. I also have an additional private pension which I still contribute to so I will transfer it to that one.
