Dishwasher Powder/ tablets- least corrosive

Options
Can anyone tell me which dishwasher powder/ tablets are the least aggressive?

I used to test dishwasher powders and some of them would strip the pattern off a plate in 12 hours (industrial testing for a ceramics company). The worst offender was Finish but there used to be a product called "Fairy Ultra" that didn't attack glass (which is what plates are glazed with).

I now have a dishwasher but don't want to destroy the glaze on my plates!

Any suggestions? Are any approved from BCRA (or whatever it is called these days; used to be British Ceramic Research Association).

Thanks :)

  • My mum used to sell fine bone china and glassware and she was told to use Fairy. Once, she ran out and bought Finish/Tesco's own and it took all the red out of some mugs. Luckily, they were only everyday ones. I only ever use Fairy. I have a Wedgwood Home everyday set which is blue and green and hasn't faded in 4 years (I've just replaced a side plate and I can't tell which one) I also have a Royal Doulton 'best' dinner service which contains red and gold leaf and I've never had any problems with that either.

There is a thread somewhere where people say what else they use in their dishwashers, but I'd rather pay a little extra and keep my designs on my plates. I find the cheapest place to get Fairy tablets is Costco - 4 x 75tab boxes for about £16-17. I don't use the loose powder because Mr TM is too heavy handed with it so it would cost too much;)

So is it just called "Fairy" or "Fairly Ultra"? Asda don't stock it...

Red is the most easily removed because it is (or used to be) a cadmium based colour and is fired at a lower temperture and isn't as durable (to say the least)!

Worst offender that I saw is Spode Christmas Tree- look at it and the pattern came off. Worcester Holly Ribbons was also pretty awful (in terms of dishwasher powder attack).

    any links to that thread?
