Just got home after a weekend at my boyfriends house to a postcard from RMA a debt collection agency they want to come round on friday.. I have also received a letter from MBNA about my balance. I promised to pay the outstanding arrears to mbna tomorrow but they have sent it to a dca, is there any way i can stop a debt collection person coming to the house, i live with my mum and dad and dont want them to know how much debt im in at the mo as im seriousley reducing it.
what will the dca guy want?? will he take any of my belongings? do i still pay mbna as planned tomorrow or wait for the dca guy to come on friday??
im so confused an scared, never been in this situtation before??
thanks

Hi and don't panic, there are people here who can help.
Firstly, don't let the collection agency enter your home, page 15 of this leaflet explains why - start by downloading and reading the leaflet:
http://www.clsdirect.org.uk/legalhelp/leaflet01.jsp?lang=en
It also helps in other ways such as informing you of your rights and
explaining terms used when dealing with debt.
It's in pdf format, if you need Adobe Acrobat Reader it's free to download here:

You've taken the first important step and asked for help, good luck.
And do consider talking to your parents, I'm sure they would rather hear of this first from you, rather than from someone who turns up un-expected when you are out.0 -
It just says 'Friday', right? No date.
It's a standard frightener, which is why it's a postcard rather than a letter.
I've seen loads of these (postcards) - never seen a debt collector.
They have no rights to do anything other than ask you if you want to make a payment. They can much more easily get the answer to that by phoning.
Bin the postcard - carry on as you are. Pay what you can to mbna. No-one's gonna come.0 -
Phone MBNA ask if they still own the debt, if they do pay it and get a reciept. Hugs try not to stress. If they do come around just don't open the door. Stay strong you shouldn't be afraid in your own home.Barclaycard 3800

Debt collectors aren’t court officials and don’t have the same powers as bailiffs. They can’t enter your home or seize your possessions.0

thanks guys, u have really ou my mind at ease.
i wont be in at all on friday as i go straight from work to my boyfs house, dont want my folks to meet with anyone nasty.
i will phone them tomorrow and pay what i owe them, ive actually spoke to them to increase my payments now to £50 to reduce it quicker an they seemed fine with it but they go sneaky behind my back.
should i phone the number on the card as well as payin or leave it and hope they dont come??Married my amazing hubby on 8th September 2012 :j:j0 -
they wont turn up ata all good old RMA!
Even if they do it will be an old guy of about 80 who gets 10p in the pound on what he collects. Just say thanks but no thanks. deal with the owner of the debt alternatively if things are bad speak to CCCS or Payplan.0 -
i am going to pay mbna 1st, vanquis has the higher apr but it was all balance transfer to its at 0% till June so hopefully making a big dent into the mbna one before the apr starts on vanquis.
