Anyone got one and are they any good for cooking steaks on?
Can they be used on a ceramic hob and which makes/models are best?

I have one which I use a lot for all meats - steak, chicken, chops etc.
Not sure about the ceramic hob, but I can't see any reason why not
Mine is a cheapo one that came back with my dad from France, so I can't help you with makes / models.
Some of them are coated, and these can rust after a while, and don't leave them sitting in water.
I wouldn't be without mine now - much better than frying or grilling.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I got mine from Lakeland. It is one of those kitchen items I know I will never need to replace as it is built to last. We are gas too and I never cook a steak any other way.
  • Mine's a Le Cresuet, which you have to get really hot, its very good but it sets the fire alarm off!! I noticed a lot of aubergines around lately & plan to grill some of those on it as I've heard they work very well.

It's great for steaks. I have a gas hob though.

  • I have a Le Creuset one too. No problem using it on my ceramic hob.
(As with any pan just be careful to always lift it, don't drag it across the hob.)
  • I have a Le Creuset one that my aunt gave me - it makes the steaks perfect!!! But it is very heavy!
