Barclaycard cancelled after issue

After seeing Barclaycard had a 20mnth 0% balance transfer offer I decided to apply to transfer my £2000 balance from my MBNA.
I had my application approved and was given a limit of over £7,000 and my balance transfer showed as 'pending' when I logged into my online account.
my card came through the post but the PIN no. seemed to be taking a while.
Afetr logging on to my account to set up DD payments and make sure it was all OK I noticed the balance transfer 'pending' transaction had vanished.
I rang Barclaycard and the chap on the phone said "Mr xxxx, I hate these types of phone calls".... and went on to explain my card had been cancelled as they had carried out further checks AFTER my application had been approved and the card sent out and unfortunatley I no longer met their lending criteria.
I am a mortgaged home owner with no bad credit other than a couple of late CC payments years ago. I have never missed a martgage payment or any loan payments so am totally confused.
And of course, Barclaycard won't give me a straight answer.
Even the bloke on the phone said it was "very unproffessional"!
Can anyone else shed any light on this or has anyone else experinced anything similar?

There was another recent post about this but I can't find it at the moment. Perhaps someone else can put their finger on it. I agree that it makes them look very unprofessional. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Hi,
I have had the same experience.
A applied after a suggestion via the Experian website.
Online application approved.
22.03.11 E-mail confirmation of approval credit limit £10k+!!
26.03.11 PIN through post
28.03.11 Card through post
28.03.11 Activated card via telephone
28.03.11 Registered online.
29.03.11 Tried to use card - refused.
29.03.11 Contacted call centre (India). When I asked the reason I was put through to the fraud department (India) but they were unable to advise the reason other than 'due to changes in .....'
I contactedExperian to complain and Experian were 'surprised' and could find no problem on my account. They advised appealing as Barclaycard would then have to tell me the reason.
So it appears Barclaycard have money to spend wasting their and my time, resources etc.
This is so un-professional. I will appeal to see if I can get any further details!0 -

I will do the same, let me know how you get on...0 -
I would be very suprised if they tell you the reason.
I've never heard of it happening before.
Who told you this?
But please keep us updated, I'd be delighted to be wrong about it.0 -
Have you checked which CRA the card company used? I don't think it's Experian actually, so it might be worth checking with whichever CRA they did consult. Check your Experian report first though. There'll be a search footprint if it was us they used.

I applied 27/3, but forgot to add that I wanted a balance transfer. Do you think that would cause a problem?0

I have had that response from Experian multiple times in the past when the report clearly came back with issues. Yet processing it again after the response it goes through with no problem. My "opinion" has been that each case had something on file that was causing an issue and it was cleared up when Experian looked at it but then denied any issue. I love using the Experian service from a functionality point of view but I find their support service is dire and they are quick to blame others when the problem is clearly at their end.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I think Barclays tend to use Equifax, not Experian, but in any event, neither CRA would be able to tell you the reason for Barclay's actions - you have a right to request their reason, but I think you will find that they are deliberately vague and will simply refer you to the CRA and tell you that they are "responsible lenders" and that you "unfortunately no longer meet their criteria". So none the wiser despite wasting even more of your time. Sadly, the banks have every right to close down a credit line whenever they wish, for no apparent / obvious reason - nothing one can do to "force" them to lend you the money!0
