I'm just about to start saving my deposit for my first house. Hopefully it will be saved in 12 months.
Is there any point in going to brokers etc to discuss available mortgages?
Could it have any negative effect on my credit file?

Not really worth seeing a broker yet.
Mortgages change on a daily basis, criteria can also change overnight and 12 months is a long time away.
You can get a rough idea of what deposit you need and income to support a given loan size from the many lenders online calculators. So get saving and see a broker nearer the time !0
