hi folks, im searching for a secured loan at the moment, so obviously i'm looking for a number of quotes.

Is there no way i can get quotes withOUT having credit checks done? i'm worried multiple credit checks wont be good for my credit record.

If so, it doesn't work that way unfortunately, Bear.

Lenders can only decide what rate to offer once they've done a credit check. Consider it from their perspective - is it fair to offer 2 people identical rates where one of them has a model credit history and the other has missed payments, CCJ's and other nasties? The first person would effectively be subsidising the other.

I suggest that you check out some of the Best Buy tables before you consider applying, but don't apply for lots of different loans for the reasons that you've already stated.

I think if you applied for a few at the same time, then the checks may not be visible yet to all of the lenders. I would have thought though that as long as you limited the number of quotes to, say 3 you'd be ok. Companies must surely expect people to shop around to an extent and for perhaps a couple of credit checks to therefore be on file. This is mainly speculation on my part though, somebody will be around to correct me shortly if this is wrong I'm sure!
