beware fortress group loans...scam?

Hi,just wanted to share my experience of Fortress group loans.

I applied online for a payday loan to top up my savings as my car had just "died" and I needed another one immediately and was connected to a subsiduary of of Fortress. Everything seemed to go ok until they needed to check/validate my card details.

A message came back saying they could go no further as card had been unvalidated due to lack of funds...which threw me as I had money in the bank...but they could still go ahead if I either............

.Faxed
.Scanned/e mailed or
.Sent a photo through mms
of both sides of my bank card.

Obviously I didn't, I may be daft but not stupid as they say, and immediately informed my bank as to what had happened just in case.

Is this something new to be aware of now?

Why did they want to validate your card details??? Why did you have lack of funds - I thought they were lending you money - not the other way around???

I think you are lucky not to have a scoop of cash go missing from your account like everybody else who applies for a rouge loan.

    validate your card details?

its because they wanted to take a broker fee from you, they tried to process it and found you had no money in your account.

they probably wanted a copy of your card details because the 18 year old chimp they employed to con you forgot to note them down when he tried to steal your money. If they have your card details, they could have kept trying each and every day afterwards to take the fee from your account.

Keep your card in your wallet

If it looks like a scam, and walks like a scam.... it is a scam:p

Once they got your bank details, they will help themselves to around £200 ( in multiples of £69 over a few days - I don't know why they don't just round it up to £70) before passing you on to a high-APR outfit, perhaps filth like Everyday Loans:naughty:

I had the same thing happen to me with Wentworth - TBH all these backstreet lenders do this as there's little regulation - you'd never get that kind of shifty practice in the high street banks - when you say they said there's no available funds on your account - they haven't emptied it, have they?!_pale_ I would check my account if I were you:(
