Assisted Voluntary Sale Scheme.....?

I have been trying to sell my house to repay the mortgage for some time now. I have told NWHL this many times, importantly on 20th March 2011. I had a letter dated 28 March 2011 and leaflet from them suggested AVS as an option.
I have tried to continue the mortgage payments but in January this year found I could no longer continue paying it (in addition to three months arrears at the end of 2010). NWHL started Reposession Proceedings. I advised them by Recorded Delivery 1st March 2012 that I would agree to the AVS scheme, but they continued with the repossession order, which was granted on 10th March.
I have finally had a reply (3rd April) to my letter of 1st March stating I do not qualify for the scheme as a) I am already marketing the property and b) I am not living at the property.
Why did they suggest this scheme in their letter dated 28th March when they knew I was living elsewhere and was trying to sell the property? Nowhere in their literature can I see these requirements. Anyone any experience of this situation?- Thank you

sorry to reopen an old thread,

but i have just started to look for an assisted sale with my lender (GE money)

Last week we went over all the figures, income, outgoings etc, reason for arrears, and they told they would ring me back and let me know if i was accepted onto the scheme or not, this week,

i was wondering if anyone could tell me how long the whole process might take, from applying to house going on the market,

i have told them if i am not accepted i would be considering voluntary surrender, has anyone ever gone down this path?
