Mackenzie hall dept 13 years old

Options
today i received a letter for Makenzie hall asking me to contact them as they are attempting to contact this person regarding a personal matter that they have been given this address as being the possible person concerned
so after a good think i think its n old dept unpaid

the last time i had any contact with the finance company i think they are referring to was October 1998 when i told them my life was in dire states and i had moved and i did not know how i could pay them ( i was by that point in a caravan with 3 kids no money no job and strange place my husband had left i was in militarily accommodation and they said i have to leave i had no place to go )

i never received any contact for the company i had a lone with at that time this is the first letter or dept letter i have received in fact i had forgotten all about the lone
i have in the past 13 years been given credit cards so i never thought there was any problem
so what do i do know do i just wait and see what there next move is or write a letter
thanks in advance for any help

    Hi

Mostly on here people would advise you to ignore this 'locating' letter. Wait for them to actually send you a letter addressed to you and detailing what debt they are trying to collect or what amount they think you owe them.
If they really want to speak to you they will send a letter that gives more details that this.

As your debt is so very old (old even for MH) then it might be they are looking for another person for another debt anyway.

If you do get a subsequent letter giving more details and it does turn out that it relates to the debt you think then it will almost certainly be statute barred- which would mean you wouldn't have to pay the debt anyway.

So ignore this letter - if they send anything else come back and tell us what and we'll advise you further.

    Hi

I would think the debt is now Statute Barred, but not really sure if you haven't informed them of your new address.

I have had dealings with Mackenzie Hall, they're really not very nice people to deal with!

I doubt that bailiffs will be involved.
Bailiffs can only be sent out if there is a CCJ for this debt. It doesn't sound like there is and usually MH deal with old statute barred debts rather than debts with court orders.

This doesn't affect whether a debt becomes statute barred or not .:)
(As they could still choose to take court action even without a new address - so if it becomes SB then its the creditors own fault for not taking action sooner).
