Quick handmade present idea!

It's my nanas birthday in a week and I don't know what to get her. She loves handmade presents but I'm a bit stuck for ideas.
I can knit, crochet and sew, but it'd have to be a quick project to get it done in time!
The reason it's so last minute is that I ordered a bag pattern and it was out of stock and now it won't come in time. So I will make that for her for Christmas, but in the meantime I need something else.
She is diabetic and the gift has to be posted. I made her a crochet bag/basket and a knitted scarf for Christmas. I'm running short of ideas but she loves handmade stuff so I would like to please

Hi Funky Monkey
There is a Special Occassions board that has lots of threads on home made present idea it may be worth having a look over there for some idea."Let your boat of life be light, pack only what you need- A homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends worth the name, someone to love and someone who loves you, a cat, a dog, a pipe or two enough to eat, enough to wear and a little more than enough to drink, as thirst is a dangerous thing" Jerome k. Thanks I will look over there too, but I was hoping for some OS input on handmade gifts

I stole this off a friend;
1. Buy a fleece throw rug (widely available £2.99 lots of colours).
2. Get a piece of thin fabric, possibly about 8 inches wide by 4 inches.
3. Turn the hem under and machine to the rug near the centre top edge.
4. Using fabric pens/ paints write something loving/ witty/ poetic/ amusing (but brief) on the fabric patch.
Voila, one personalised gift, easy to wrap and completely unbreakable. Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

What about one of the wheat bags that you put in the microwave. It's the wrong time of year for these really but there was a thread on here about making your own and they sounded great.[STRIKE]December low - £3012 January low - £2589[/STRIKE]
February low -£2434
Loan -£1075
In 2011, I aim to grow £120 pounds worth of produce. (£0 so far)
I'm also aiming to cook 100 new things before I buy a new cookbook. (82/100)

My quickest knit pattern is for a shawl which you do on circular needles, huge ones, about size 15. Cast on 1 stitch & increase to 3 stitches then basically, you just do plain garter stitch & increase one stitch at the end of each row. When it is a wide as you like, cast off loosely & make tassles to go down each of the sloping sides to the point which hangs down the back. I've made several of these for Christmas presents & they are nice to put round your shoulders in an evening or if you use a glitzy yarn can look nice for going out. I usually use yarn from my stash. Just made one to put away in present cupboard for which I used black yarn (called 'A touch of velvet') I used it double & every few rows, I knitted in an additional yarn, an eyelash type with a bit of sparkle. Easiest to do on circular needles as it obviously does get very wide by the end, so I find it easier to manage. Have used lots of different yarns for these shawls in the past & you can get a lot of different looks from what is a dead simple & fast-growing pattern.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

beaded brooch? or just embroider some linen hankies? or a pillowcase? satin stitch is quick to do and so are french knots.
oh and if you have a church candle handy and some nice gold or silver peel-offs - that makes a nice gift! beads or gems imbedded look lovely too.0 -
Covered coat hangars with a lavender bag hanging from them. Sorry no pattern but even I've made these for my Nan and managed to make them look ok.
If you're an accomplished sew-er I'm sure you'll be fine - otherwise PM me and I'll try and knock up some instructions!
