Another beautiful day here in the South.
The King.com money has finally arrived so I have requested it from Paypal and that should be in my bank account later in the week. The grand total including the ebay sales was £24.79 which is great.
I had another dog sitting enquiry today. Yay!! It should come to something as the owner seemed very keen, so fingers crossed.
I am trying very hard to teach my children that money does not grow on trees, it has to be earned. DS has a job delivering a local free weekly newspaper. It pays very little, but is only a couple of hours work a week. They deliver the newspapers along with leaflets which we have to slot into the papers. Then they are delivered to two rounds, totalling 333 houses. I help out with this, as does DD and he pays DD £2.00 a week, which she thinks is great. They have bought some nice things with their wages and pocket money, and I encourage them to save up for anything they want. DS has asked me many times to loan him the money if there is something he wants and he doesn’t quite have enough funds, but I refuse on the basis that no 14 year old needs credit. Save and then buy. Tough love I think its called. I only hope it works. Anyway, in view of all this, last week the kids were away and I did the paper round for DS. Usually there are only 2 or 3 leaflets to slot in, but sod’s law, last week there were 9! It took DH & I hours to slot all the papers in. It should pay just over £20.00 and I feel guilty about this, but I am keeping the money. DS & DD didn’t earn it and I feel it would be wrong to give it to them. I will have to treat them instead, however all I really want to do is pay it into the mortgage account!!!

Nothing wrong with teaching children to save, you could always lend him the money and charge a 50% credit advance fee

Radish, what a great idea! Although I have just explained it to DS and he's not so keen. :p

    Morning all.

The wages for the paper round were in my account this morning - £22.69. Had a chat with DH and are in agreement that the kids do not get it, as they didn't earn it so £10.00 has been sent to the mortgage account and the remainder to the credit card. DH did remind me that I did pay the kids to wash the van yesterday so they are not doing too badly.

Have been up early doing bookkeeping so that's all done for the day. Quiet day today - need to keep the kids amused and keep spending to a minimum.

    Have a great day everyone.

  • Well done on all your overpayments. I agree with you about the paperround money - Having done one as I child I know how hard you will have worked at it. You are also teaching them that if they dont work they dont earn, which is the way of the world and a good lesson to teach them.

    Morning all.

Today is one of those days where I feel like I am wading through treacle. Nothing seems to be happening fast enough and I think it is because I am sooo impatient. There are two small amounts in the banking system, slowly making their way to the mortgage account and then that's it for a while.

Yesterday seemed to be one of those days (that happens to all of us no doubt) where things broke and now need replacing, or the kids said that their shoes/clothes didn't fit any more or we had just plain run out of stuff. DH & I did the food shopping which is usually £60 - £70 per week and this week was over £100. How did that happen?

I think I need to stop looking at the negative and look at what I have achieved this month already. Normally I would have just made my usual £175.00 monthly overpayment however, I have sent £226.00 to the mortgage account this month. I must tell myself that I am doing something and that every pound sent is a pound less to find at the end of the mortgage term. Also, a pound less that the mortgage company can charge me interest on.

My shopping just tipped the £100 mark this week too and I normally spend 60-70. I didn't splurge on a lot either. Perhaps the prices are slowly creeping up. Going to have to get inventive with meal planning.

    Hi yukkibear,

No, I didn't splurge either, although I did need cat litter which cost £5.48 and the cat now will only eat Whiskas Senior Pouches at £4.00 a box so that's nearly £10.00 of my shop.

Inventive meal planning and living out of the store cupboards is a must this week I think.

Definitely better to concentrate on what you have done rather what you need to do for the next number of years

Some months you will see huge amounts going towards your mortgage and other months if will just be a bit as other thing get in the way

Keep your chin up and tell your kids that clothes that look to small is the next big thing in fashion

Today I am taking Radish's advice and concentrating on what I have done and the minor achievements that will help me save money towards overpayments in the long run.

I have cooked a meal at home this lunchtime as I knew that I would get tempted to suggest dining out if we waited until tea time.
I have worked for one hour whilst DH was watching the snooker.
DS & DD have gone out on their bikes (free entertainment and they are loving exploring the local woods, making ramps etc. I went to see where they were going to make sure they were safe. Me - on a bike!!!)
DH went out and bought hair clippers and I cut his hair for the very first time. Scary at first, but it looks ok, just shorter. Clippers cost £30.00 so will need to be used 5 times before they pay for themselves, so easily achieved. Just need to persuade DS to let me loose on his hair now (but he's not as daft as his Dad!!)
Not moneysaving but definitely an achievement - I did some ironing and the ironing cupboard door now shuts properly. There's still an hour or so to do though.

I have finally come to the realisation that I am a very sad muppet. Tomorrow one of the two overpayments will hit the mortgage account and I will be able to amend my spreadsheet accordingly. And then on Wednesday, the other op will hit the account and I will be able to reduce it again. I can't wait.

Think I need to get a life :rotfl:
