company messing me about

Just looking for some advice, I went for interview 22/2/11 for care assistant. Now having my HNC & worked for well established care company for over five years as community support worker. Anyway interview i went for went excellent got letter back saying i was offered position subject to enhanced disclosure & ref's. Handed in signed paperwork accepting offer & 3 passport photo,s.
3 weeks no word so phoned to speak to manager after sending two emails previous, got talking to administrator & one of my ref,s had recently moved on to another job, i asked why they hadnt contacted myself to let me know this & she just wasnt very helpful, so got another reputable reference gave them details so they pursued that & recieved new reference, just to add when i phoned my old company they did say that person who was originally to give me reference did move quite suddenly, these things happen.
I have two charges on my disclosure from 1992 not serious, this was put on my application at begining as i always do, & was discussed at interview.
Then another couple of weeks past still no word. So i phoned y,day again asking for manager, admin worker who took call asked what i was phoning for told her situation, & she said discrepency with disclosure, which i couldnt understand. I then asked if she had explanation for this, & she was very off hand. As if it was a bother to her, she said yes they are on your application & match disclosure but you never discussed breach of peace at interview??? so by now i was quite puzzled?. She then just went quiet, i had to ask if she was still on the line?. She said oh its not really a big deal you just have to come in & explain it as it was just over 19 years ago, i asked why i hadnt been contacted regarding reference situation & now this? can you come in this week she said that was it, i asked when was suitable, and the silence came again, so i said Wednesday suits, what time? well really when you can manage :eek::eek:
Now i have checked my emails four in total i have sent & 3 times i have foned. Has anybody else had any experiences like this. I am awaiting word back on two other support work jobs, again same as long as disclosure comes in matching same as i disclosed. I feel as this company is crap, or do they not need to contact me over these issues which could have been resolved very quickly if they had?????
Just confused & feel abit down with it all, as induction was due to start next week.....

What I find shocking is that anyone other than a manager responsible for hiring is in a position to discuss both what is on your disclosure and what is on your application form, over the phone.
What the CRB sends to your employer is confidential. It shouldn't be freely available to all and sundry in the office.
I do the HR admin where I work, and if an applicant had an 'issue' on their CRB, I would know no more than that the person needed to speak to the manager responsible, because there was a CRB query, and I wouldn't have a clue what the query was. Only the manager sees the CRBs.
And yes, if we couldn't get a reference or there was a delay, we'd ask the applicant to provide another.
You may have had a lucky escape, if you ask me, but I'd be tempted to make a complaint about their serious breach of confidentiality.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for your reassurance - as i was thinking along these lines. I have written a letter of complaint to manager of office & to head office last night, communication was a disgrace, i did speak to my old boss who had been in social work for many years & other care sector management jobs up until he retired i was employed by him for 6 years, & he said whilst he was working they would have lettered or even just called to say can you supply an other reference, people move on & can move suddenly. And it did happen frequently - no big deal. Also regarding disclosure only management should have contacted myself, he had many people over years with minor issues on disclosure but he dealt with anything that arose & he said i was to good to work for company involved lol - think he knew i was really down about this. I printed off application i done online to prove what was disclosed & emails i sent to prove that their was no communication from them at all, but loads from myself. But to me it was just a shambles & im now looking for other employment.
One of the questions at interview was dealing with confidentiality - lmao :beer:0 -
