I saw the judge

And survived!

I thought i would share my experience of what happened as other threads like this helped put me at ease.

My self and my o/h had our appointment booked and turned up 30 mins early. We were in a large crown court for our appointment so had to pass through all the security searches etc.

From there we headed to the information desk and was advised the Bankruptcy advisor would be with us soon. After around 5 minutes we were both called into a small office and she went through all our paperwork to make sure all was correct. She then said our appointment to see the judge was in 45 minutes and we could go and wait in the waiting room after paying our fees.

We paid our fees and wondered over to the waiting room and sat outside a big court room. We were both a bit nervous now and had visions of standing in a proper court with a judge in the full outfit looking down on us.

The usher came into the room and we made our selfs known to him and then waited a few more minutes before being called through together.

We got taken down a small side corridor into a small office and was told the judge would see us. To my relief this was just like an office and we were sat on the opposite side of a desk. He asked a few questions and at first i thought he wasn't going to agree with us and declare us BR but he said all was fine and that as of this time you are BR. He said we were free to go and the OR would get in touch the next day.

We headed back out of his office and just headed straight for the exit in a daze as it all seemed to happen so quickly. Once outside though it hit us what had happened and what it meant and there was just a whole relief about it.

The time spent in the court waiting passed so quickly but after reading lots of advice on this forum i was prepared, but still nervous! I hope this helps some people as other threads similar to this really helped me. There really is nothing to worry about but the nervs still get to you.

Glad it went so smoothly for you, one thing sticks out though, I had to return to the Court Clerk with my file so he could draw up my BR Order to give to me. Did the Judge give yours to you?

    No he didn't.
After we handed our files over to the bankruptcy advisor we never saw them after that. The judge had them and only looked at two pages on each file. He signed the order and gave us a letter explaining that the OR would contact us the following morning and our court order would be posted to us within 24 hours. At the top of the letter was the bankruptcy file number and that was that.

If that letter says at the top Bankruptcy Order on Debtor's Petition then that is your BR Order and you should have two copies. A well organised system if that's the case, saves all the toing and froing to the clerk. :)

Ahh, it does say Bankruptcy order at the top and states our file number.

Our court gave me a scrap of photocopied paper and wrote my BR number on it. The order followed in the mail a few days later. I still have that scrap of paper - I keep it in my wallet and see it every time I go to use my debit card
