why won't m&s let me do this?

Hi Ive been living with my partner over 8 years we've been paying our credit cards off and have managed all but one her m&s card.
I pay all the bills etc from my account as I earn the most, I wanted to set up a DD to pay her cc every month as I normally ring and pay with my card but have twice forgotten and been charged. My partner rang them today to set it up while we were both there to talk and they wouldnt let her said she needed to pay, they've let me make a payment for over a year why cant i set up a direct debit?
Thanks :)

Probably because you're not the customer.

Could you set up a standing order instead maybe? Or just carry on paying it manually each week/month?
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • yeah will just carry on paying manually just thought it would be easier direct debit, I'd have thought they wouldnt be bothered who's paying as long as they're getting the money :)
  • How about a DD from her account to the credit card, but a standing order from your account to hers that goes in on the day before the payment is taken?
I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

get her to call and get account and sort code details to pay in, then set standing order up from your account with her account number as a reference
  • just set up a standing order from your acount to m&s, i do this for my other half!

My partner has a m & s card. I set up a direct debit from one of my accounts through m & s online banking.
