A friend of mine wants to start doing mystery shopping but shes on benefits and wondered how this works?.(income support, child tax credits and extra because she is disabled)....As the money is so irregular and some weeks no money is earned how would she/the benefit agency know what she is/isn't entitled to?...can anyone help?

She can earn and keep £20 per week under the 'permitted work' rules of IS without it effecting her benefits, all she has to do is ring the DSS and make them aware of her plans, and submit a wage slip or proof of the income when she does it

The DWP will probably request copies of her wage slips periodically (every 3 or 6 months for example). Then they average the earnings out over the period in question and offset it against the total benefit (minus the £20 earning's disregard, or whatever it is now). That's how I used to have to do it when I worked for 'em.0
