can't system restore!

Hi,
im hoping someone can help.
i tried to system restore but its not happening.. it restarts and then says 'no changes have been made'.
i have a feeling that something bad has happened to my computer as i had to restart it 4 times just now just to be able to get on the net. It crashed as the desktop was loading...
any advice?

My initial piece of advice: backup, quick!
Try restarting in safe mode, doing a virus/spyware scan, and shutting down, rather than restarting. Then try system restore again, going back to an earlier date than before.0 -
