Have tried my local freecycle groups and gumtree and obvs ebay, can anyone suggest anywhere else i can try as we got very tight budget and anything extra has to come outta the twins xmas prezzi fund

I would suggest screwfix. There own brand stuff isa good value and more importantly good quality. Worth a look.

Poundland is good for stuff like paste and brushes, and occasionally even wallpaper and paint. They also often have self-adhesive floor tiles (I think you get about 5 in a pack, each about a foot square).0

we were in a similar situation
Probably the quickest
is to emulsion the walls, you can paint
over most wall paper.Providing theres
no gold or silver in the pattern on the
paper or the colours are not too dark
if they are dark use any old emulsion in a
pale shade as a basecoat.if you use
Crown Solo silk finish gloss paint.
It will cover in one coat and you
can paint radiaters,skirting boards,windows etc
because its the silk finish gloss and not the
regular gloss finish,it dries in a couple of hours.
Also the next time you come to repaint it you wont
need to undercoat. Its a handy one to use if you are
trying to do this, when time is running against you.
The 1ltr can of Dulux gloss paints 6 doors plus
two very large door airing cupboard doors.
Just counting them up.the branded gloss
paints give better coverage over the stores
own brand
If you can get proper
well known brands of paint because
these often cover in one coat.
We use Crown & Dulux,Wilkinsons
have their emulsion £12.95 2.5ltr
can,one of these is plenty for a
12ft by 12ft bedroom.
We have also had good results
from the B&Q emulsions one coat
colours,the ones in the oblong
tubs,just done three walls in
the sitting room and theres plenty left
to tackle a couple of other rooms
the brushes, turps etc in the £1
shop are very good value.
But have a look in B&Q
because earlier this year we bought
a paint tray,roller,large plasic sheet
and a selection of brushes all in a
pack for £6.99,its made by Harris
so its a decent make. The roller
in it was excellent.
Worth having a look in the reduced
section often really nice colours are
amongst them.That are discontinued
or sometimes in the mix your paint
someone has returned a can because its not
the exact enough shade for them, they
often let these go very cheap.
If you tackling a door that has lots of
stickers attached that your struggling
to remove get a hot iron, place a piece of paper
over them and hold the iron on the paper
the heat will melt the adhesive on the stickers
so you can scrape them off with a scraper
easier.
Good luck with it and good luck in your
new home0 -
Also I bought the Dulux 1lr can gloss
paint in lavender from Poundland used
it here and its a lovely shade,a real
bargain too.0 -
Worth buying some paint pads too - they are much easier to use, produce less splatter compared to a roller and give an even coverage, and are very easy to clean. You'll even save money because the paint goes much further therefore less to buy!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

dont know if this will be of any help
but we moved into a bedsit years ago
all the walls were painted black, thought we
had manged to cover it fine until after a
bit we started noticing bits of black
showing through.Tried lots of different
stuff to cover it and still the black colour
was showing through a decorater friend
told us to try eggshell paint this worked
a treat and stopped it.Also worked here
when we realised that the familiar turquise
blue paint on the walls was in fact paint
used to paint trains.
The one I hate the worst is the staircase
we just painted the walls and ceiling one shade
of cream.Got a roller and a brush sellotaped them
to brush poles so we could reach the high bits.
Saves dicing with death balancing ladders
on the stairs.
Also if you think there are smaller parts of the walls
that may need repapering, get a roll of ready pasted
wall paper.Cut it to size and just dunk it in either a
bath or a tub and slap it on the walls when its dried
paint over it to match in.Saves all that setting up
of paste table,glue etc.
Stick down any bits that are coming loose at edges,
corners, little torn bits with PVA glue.0
