Help!! employers changing working hours....

Wondering i anyone has any helpful advice .....

Hubby has been working for the same company for 2.5 years .... he has agreed working hours .... starts at 8am 3 days a week and starts at 11am 2 days a week.

The company have been making alot of changes including restructuring comission, making it 'almost impossible' to earn any.

Now they are setting out a shift pattern system that they are supposed to work .... one week early one week late with 5 hours on a saturday every 2nd week.

Problem is I work part time, my husband is a scout leader every friday night (which is a commitment they were told about when he was interviewed for the job) basically we are struggling to find how we manage this...

Manager has said today that if he does not sign and return the form accepting the changes then he will be out of a job come monday?

Can they do this, he has said he is struggling with childcare arrangements especially on a saturday... basically they have said they are not budging or are prepared to compromise .. nothing.

Any help/thoughts??

The short of it is, yes they can do this, provided they give him enough notice. When are the changes due to come into effect?

Is your hubby part of a union?

They gave approx 1 months notice by email . It does not say it is a new contract just new directives they have to sign if they understand.

No he is not a member of a union.

It might be worth he speak with ACAS to see exactly what his rights are, however employers are within their rights to change working hours based on the needs of the business.
