aol and debt collectors

Options
Hope somebody can advise me on my next action

I had an account with aol. When my 24 month contract was up I rang them to change to a basic account which would be 10.00 per month instad of 22.00. They said that was ok and everythig was set up. Go t m bank stateent 2 month later which showed they had still been taking out 22.00. Tried on a couple of occasions to get in touch with them but was left holding on at least 20 mins on one occasion, so got fed up and wrote to cancel and cncelled my d.d

Never thought anything else about it (just that they were taking their time cancelling bradban) until I received a letter saying I owed one payment, rang them up to find out what was happenning and they say my account wasnt cancelled as they hadnt receved my letter and I now owed 45.00.

I tried t explain that in fact they owed me as I had over paid 2 installents (as I was on a different package). Was told that my package had never been changed so I still owed them the money. Now they have sent in the debt collectors, but I cannot get anybody to undertand that I was assured that my package was changed and if it had the 20.00 extra I paid would have paid for the 2 missing installmets. I rang the debt collectors but they are not inerested. Just saying I owe it so I should pay it and I cannot get anybody at AOL who understands English.

Sorry for the rant.

  • Cheers for your reply.

I will give him an email Ive got nothing left to lose. Except my relationship. After speaking to the debt collectors yesterday I received two calls from them once in the afternoon and once int he evening asking for payment over the phone.

My OH says just to pay it and argues that we shouldnt be receiving these calls, but to me its the principle of the thing. If I let it go how many others just let it go by.

I empathise with you totally. Their customer service has gone down the pan in the last 2 to 3 years unfortunately. I have been a customer for 12 years now. Honestly, trying to get an issue resolved by their Indian callcentre is a nightmare to say the least. Calls are dropped, false promises the lot. Before, I get accused of being racist, nothing to do with it, I too am from an ethnic minority background, if that is politically correct to say.

Anyway, call their normal number and select option 4 for 'moving or leaving AOL' , gets you through to Ireland, slightly better. Someone did disconnect my call there too, I'm never rude on the phone, they can never understand the issue and help me. Hope that helps.

Good luck. I say do not pay and argue your point. Next time, if anyone says they will change your package, you should always receive an email confirmation of the change.
