Working out bank holidays with notice period

Options
I have a new job to start on 3rd May, and with my current employeer I have a 4 week notice period. Cheekily I want to maximise the number of bank holidays I get paid towards the end of April.
Currently my plan is to hand my notice in on 1st April which I think would make my last working day 29th April (Royal Wedding). I would prefer to do it this way so I don't get paid 1 day in May 1 month later. So would I get Good Friday, Easter Monday and Royal Wedding BH's paid?

Also how is Full Time (Mon-Fri) annual leave calculated. I get 25 days without BH's so I think I get 8.17 days approximately pro-rata based on 17/52 full weeks worked, is this correct?

you are entitled to 5.6 weeks holiday (this can include the bank holidays if your employer chooses). when does your holiday year run from to?

  • Annual leave runs Jan-December I get 25 days + bank holidays. So in total that would give me 34 for this year, but I assume I am only entitled to the bank holidays that occur while I am employment with the company. So I worked it out that 4/12th of 25 is just over 8 days and I've taken 2 leaving 6 pro-rata, and that the bank holidays won't be pro-rata'd as I'm full time not hourly/PT.

This depends on the exact wording of your contract.

As stated you must get at least 28 days holiday per year (obviously pro rata if part time).

Your contract may say, for example, 20 days leave per year plus public holidays. If it does then you get any that crop up before you leave.

However, if it says 28 days per year to include public holidays then you get just the total number of days in proportion to the amount of the year that has elapsed.

There is no automatic legal right to bank holidays, just to a minimum of 28 days leave per year.
