Anyone bought one? Is it any good? Ive loads of old slides form my late FIL that need scanning and archiving before being passed onto other relatives.
Thanks, Alison

Yep I bought one.
Not very good I don't recommend it. It's only a cheap fixed focus digital camera with an LED back light. On slides it's very, very contrasty and you lose detail. Read similar comments on Veho and Ion scanners on Amazon. It's the same device
That said it's better than nothing. Good quality slide scanners are very expensive (£200+) and getting your slides scanned is also very expensive (40p each). There seems to be nothing in the middle.
If you do buy an Aldi one you can tweak the arcsoft software a little bit, but it's still naff. PM me for the details.
Better still, buy a Plustec or Reflecta scanner, but they are serious money. And it looks like you need a separate slide holder for the plustek
Whatever you buy you need software with retouch capability - old slides can have black mould growing and dust always gets in. Picasa is free and it worked for me.

or Epson v500

like some of the pricier Plustek it has
DIGITAL ICE technology removes scratches and dust from old film, so you can repair damaged originals. Faded colours are no problem either, because Epson Color Restoration brings them back to life.0 -
I have a Canon 8800F, similar to the Epson V500. Their current model is the 9600F so you can get the 8800F a bit cheaper - I got an "as new" one from a buisness seller on ebay for £90. It is great at doing pics as well as negs & slides (I have a lot of old pics from early 1900s onwards that I don't have the negatives for). I can slap down up to 6 pics on the glass and it will scan them automatically into seperate files - saves a lot of time. It cans can 12 negs but only 4 slides at a time.
Which? have a test report of scanners which I found helpful. You can join on a one-month trial for only £1 here www.which.co.uk0
