Advice Requested: Letter from Albion

Hi, am wondering if anyone can help with some simple advice. I have written to my creditors offering token payments as I am currently unemployed. One of them, Halifax has been refusing to stop interest and charges. Their debt collector, Albion, now want me to call them to discuss this letter I sent. I am not at all keen to let them have my number or speak to them, as I prefer to have everything in writing. In anyone's experience, is calling them going to be the only way to stop them adding to the account?
Thanks,
Neil
Thanks,
Neil

Didn't want to read and run. Don't have experience of Albion but do agree about doing everything in writing. You can only offer what you can afford so talking to them on the phone only gives them the chance to try and bully you into agreeing a higher sum that you can't afford.
I'm sure someone else will be along with more info than I have about stopping charges.
Good luck0 -
Calling them in NOT in your interests. It is firmly in theirs though. That's why they want you to. Write back and say something like...
Dear Sir/Madam,
Ref:123456789-0
I am writing to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated xx/Mar/2011 in which you urged me to telephone you.
Please be advised that I will only communicate in writing. Thank you in advance, I shall look forward to your written reply.
Yours Faithfully,
You can use that or make up your own, but keep it as short 'n' sweet as you can, be polite but don't crawl and make the point. If they continue to push you after that, then you can use stiffer language then to show you are not going to accept being messed about by them. For now though, just be nice.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.
