I posted a while ago that we were hoping other halves bonus would be big enough to cover our council tax and rent arrears! Well thanks to starting the DMP too, (first payment made today) THAT YES YES YES! we are now clear of those horrid balances! they are now fully paid up for the end of the tax year. Will make Aprils payments during April, and get the DD's sorted for MAY! OMG its such a relief its unreal!

Hi - brilliant news, you must feel so good!Staring point of debt £23,343:mad:

I mean things have been feeling good since knowing other half was getting a bonus, but we didnt know if it would be roughly what we was hoping for, but it was. So now they have been paid, things feel REALLY good now! and knowing that the DMP will be up and running very shortly helps too. I know our creditors have been contacted as we are now getting letters to show this. Or "available balances" have been reduced to 0 where accounts have been closed. eg Next. At the moment its feeling good that credit will be a thing of the past, and if we want something we save for it! So therefore should look after things better, cos of the hardwork gone into getting it!0

Hi Ceejyadee, - feel exactly the same and looking forward to being in the position to save up for things we want. I KNOW I will value them more. Have even started a wish list so I can start planning.
We are also waiting on a big bonus in July. We are hoping to know the amount in April but if it's what we think it is it should clear off a big chunk of debt. It's not like we haven't had bonueses before, just that we spent them before we got them several times over as in "when I get my bonus i'll clear it...." "my bonus will cover it..." Not wanting to acknowledge the fact that the bonus wasn't an ever re-filling pot!Staring point of debt £23,343:mad:

For what we just paid out in arrears, could have carpeted almost our whole house, and we kick ourselves that for so long, we were paying for big holidays on credit cards, but once maternity money stopped, we started to struggle more, But the big kick was when the council told us they had stuffed up and miscalculated the benefits, so we had to pay it back. CT arent so forgiving as the HB! BUT they are now gone! The only 2 still being paid on a weekly basis not part of the DMP are the TAx credit Over payments, and the Housing Benefits over payments. It would be nice to possibly get the Tax credits paid off at double what we are paying now, and get rid of it within the next 12 months, rather then 2013! BUT first item on our Wish List is a Garden Shed, theres only so much Outside tools that can be kept in my under stairs cupboard, which means the stuff i do want in there ISNT! eg my ironing board and hoover,skyvicky123 wrote: »Hi Ceejyadee, - feel exactly the same and looking forward to being in the position to save up for things we want. Well done on paying off those priority debts. It must feel like a weight has ben lifted off. It always seems to me unfair that when the professionals make a mistake (ie overpay) the unsuspecting person pays the price by acquiring unforeseen debts. But you're getting there.
Congrats again.0 -
