Options
Is it my imagination or did the governement say annual bills would not rise this year?

I have a 6% rise! Been told it is the town council.

Is it a specific part of the total bill that has gone up e.g. Water?

You should see a breakdown? I think supposedly the lcoal council precepts haven't gone up (per the announcement), doesn't mea that the Parish Council, Police and Fire Service haven't gone up. (should probably show the details amongsth your annual bill)

sadly for you (and anyone else with town or parish councils) the nil tax rise does apply to these representation mechanisms

a reason I am eternally grateful that where I live we voted against establisghing a parish council, their share of the tax funds does not all come out of the district council, some of it comes on top of the district council tax take

start a campaign to abolish the town counil, their powers and ar5eas of responsibility can be done a lot more efficiently by a bigger body - such a shame that unitary authorities never really took off, there are still far too many town clerks in existence doing a job that could be done at county level with half the overheads of having county, disriuct and parish councils all "representing" the people - howver expect to come up against a very vocal support group who believe passionately in such representation and hang the cost of it

Many counties are going down the unitary route, Bedfordshire had 2 borough and 2 district councils and a county council. Now the 2 borough councils are each unitary, the 2 district councils merged to form the 3rd unitary authority and the county council no longer exists.

When the 1st borough council went unitary around 10 years ago, the taxpayers saw their council tax bill noticeably decrease that year. Didn't see much of a decrease when the other 2 councils became unitary.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
