Been Made Redundant

Hi

Some of you might of seen from previous threads that I might be getting made redundant.
Well it happened today. I have a while to find a new job, but want to get looking straight away.

I was a lithographic print assistant, but want to try something different.

Just really asking for links to useful websites for job seeking, training for a new career etc.

Its been a while since I had to look for a job, so looking for any help possible.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

  • Printing is in the computing area so check out the following:

    1. The IT Job Board
    2. Jobserve.com
    3. CWJobs.co.uk
    4. Senitor Associates
    5. Monster

Cheers for the reply. Lithographic printing is not in the computing sector though.

But I do have a great interest in computers so those links will be very helpful.

I used to run a GTO but that type of printing has all but vanished now. Due to my age, was not worth retraining in anything, so now work in a DIY store.

You may be able to get some advice from the job centre re. training.
    Good luck
  • If you're looking at a career change you could contact Next Step www.nextstep.direct.gov.uk they offer free careers advice as well as occupational information on the website and have a telephone helpline as well.

Not much is free nowadays so might be worth a look if you are looking for a different area of work.
  • Are they offering you redundancy management as part of your package?

Also worth finding out if your company will contribute to any retraining as part of the package.

My old company did both, which helped a lot.
  • The is funding available, best speak to local colleges, JCP etc for re-training form redundancy. It is usually called Response to Redundancy and is available for people who are under notice, under threat, at risk of or who have been made redundant. It covers a wide range of types of courses for re-training. There may be a hiatus at the moment with it being end of year and most projects ending on 31st March but keep looking.

Cheers for all the advice. I've not been offered redundancy management by the company. There not very helpful at all really. I dont think theres any chance of retraining as part of the package. We're just being given the government minimum package as it is.
Saintjammyswine I like the sound of what you say. Will definatly be looking into that. Will phone up the local colleges.
