NHS Banding Question....

Yes I think you are right in that I should wait to see if I get offered the position, and then question the starting point. The strange thing is, the band 3 job (the new one I'm being interviewed for) looking at the job spec, you would actually think was higher than my current band 4, as its quite specific, and has more responsibilities than my current one!
(1) I've been a temporary worker in the NHS for 4 years, 2 of them in my current role. We are going through "restructuring" and I'm not allowed to apply for any position within the restructured organisation. So roles for which I am more than qualified would be allocated to a permanent employee with only 4 months service in another part of the NHS (even beyond where I am working) rather than to me, even where they were not interested in applying nor fully qualified. I'm not sure how that is equal treatment.
(2) Yes that's the band deflation I suggested. There's also job title inflation - so lower band jobs are given titles more appropriate for a higher band.0 -

Hi again, yes the same thing is happening to me in my current role. Other permanent staff from other teams are being redeployed into our positions and we are not allowed to apply, so I know exactly what you mean.
However the fact that this new job I'm being interviewed for was advertised externally suggests to me either that they couldn't recruit internally (from things I've picked up at work at the minute, they have to advertise internally first for NHS jobs) or that as the job is so specific, they had no choice but to advertise externally to get people with the relevant specific education for the role - so I think I should stand a good chance.0 -
So I had the interview this morning and it went VERY well!!
They said they have more interviews booked until the end of the week, so they should know by Friday/Monday at the latest.
If I am offered the job, when they ring up will they tell me the salary offered? (I've never been offered a permanent job before, so unsure how it works!) Should I accept the job, and then ask later about starting salary, or ask when they ring me up to offer me the job??

If you get a phone call to offer you the job, this will be followed up by a letter - this will say something like "we are offering you the job subject to CRB checks and Occ. Health checks" - and you will need to send the forms etc back, along with a letter accepting the post. Once they have all the necessary documentation you will get a formal offer and start date.
Hope it goes well for you.0
