İ have a mortgage of 55k on my uk home which i am comfortable with because i have a paying occupational pension that pays the interest only mortgage and all the outgoings. i can save 1k a mnth--i am 48.
İ live abroad and have a home worth 100k which is mortgage free-the 55k mortgage was used to buy it 4 years ago and in the interceeding years i have improved it considerably.
i own a business abroad which gives my wife and me a comfortable living and has a net value of 20k -its 2 years old.
The only thing i lack abroad is a holiday home i actually own--atm i rent one--they cost about 70k which would be sufficient enough to buy a retirement home.
İ stress a lot about my finances and whether i am doing enough to relax into old age--at this rate i might not make it

Do you rent out your UK home ?
You still have 17 years until you are 65 and 20 years before you get a state pension IF you have made over 30 years contributions ( national insurance)
perhaps you should see an accountant/IFA about tax /retirement planning.
I would also build up savings to clear the mortgage on the UK property unless you have a repayment vehicle already0 -
i have paid my 30 years of stamp but dont rent out my uk home--the occupational pension covers it. i have sufficient income abroad to live a normal lifestyle--work and leisure.--i do worry about being an absentee landlords and uk EA s--a sense of peace!!
No vehicle in place which is the concern- but i one day i wonder if i will need 2 homes and i will make the ultimate decision to downsize--i should think old age will be the determining factor and at that time the oap will kick in--its worth a lot more abroad!(140 quid in turkey is a good pension)mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
If you did rent out your UK home with a good agent and used the money to clear the mortgage over the next few years you could be mortgage free before you retire!
Keeping a base in the UK is aways a good idea if you have health problems.0
