Hi all, my girlfriend received a 2nd letter yesterday from lowell saying she owes them £800. The problem is she let her mum use her old littlewoods account in good faith after the promise she will pay it back. it was the xmas before last that her mum ran up the bill, on presents that sat unused and are now in the loft, and I shall refer to her as mwe (money wasting expert).
I know mwe will ignore the letters and not take responsibility fort this debt. she practically bullied my girlfriend and her sister into a provident loan as she couldn't get credit. I found this out after paying my girlfriends provident debt off when we first met. We have a baby now and can't and won't pay this debt. mwe is on benefits galore and could easily afford to. Yet you can't talk to her about it as she takes any advice as criticism and morphs into a pitbull.

Sorry for my angered rant. I know it will just be letter after letter with these companies, but would it be worth telling them it's not my girlfriends debt. MWE won't tell them or pay them. What else can we do?

Thanks in advance,
Ian. (proud to be moneysaving)

    No. Because it is.

Your girlfriends account, her responsibility to run it correctly and pay the account. Any arrangement between your girlfriend and her mother, or anyone else, is not the catalogue company's problem.
  • Hi Ian
Hi Ian, I had nearly exactly the same problem with my girlfriend, except her sister ran up the debt..
I wrote to Lowell (please see a copy below) they were unable to supply me with anything, and they did not pursue this debt. I guess we were quite lucky, but it seems to me they hardly ever have the credit agreements and have to go back to the original lender, who may or may not have it, I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply, that is of great help. At least I hope it to be.:)
Much appreciated. It's just so annoying that my girlfriends credit rating will be battered by her mothers actions.
