Bought it from Asda Direct two weeks ago for £379 (no longer available there), we're very impressed with the television. Only thing to note is that although it has built-in Freeview, it's not Freeview HD. Didn't worry us but I've seen others comment on various fora about it.

I looked at that TV, but yesterday I bought an LG 42" LED (rather than LCD) TV via Quidco at bestbuy.co.uk for £372.59

This is less than half the depth of the LCD TV (3.5 cm instead of 7.66 cm), Has a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 instead of 60,000:1. It also has 4 HDMI inputs compared to the 2 offered by the LCD TV. LED TVs also use about 40% less power then LCD so you save a lot that way too.

    http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000144144/lg-42le4500-42-led-full-hd-1080p-tv.aspx

It is up for £449.99 but use the clearance code TVCLEAR10A for 10% discount taking it to £404.99.

You then get 8% additional cashback via Quidco taking it down to £372.59.

Using Amex gets another 1% cashback too :)

You can also opt for free delivery

This Telly is at Dixons for £459.99 so is a bit of a bargain!

    Hope it helps somebody

LED TVs are LCD TVs with LED backlighting. For nearly every LED Edge-Lit LCD TV, there is an equivalent normal LCD TV, with the same panel, processor & software, hence similar picture quality.

The only obvious difference between LED Edge-Lit LCD & normal LCD is that the case is 2cm - 4cm slimmer. For this cosmetic effect, you pay £££ more than the equivalent normal LCD TV.

An example is the Samsung UE40C5800. £515 from Amazon. It's normal LCD equivalent is the Samsung LE40C580. £400 from Amazon. Same picture quality. For the extra £115 you get a case that's 3cm slimmer.

LED Edge-Lit LCD TVs are essentially for 'Fashionistas' ... they who prioritise style over picture quality. Energy savings are overstated ... you won't notice much difference in annual electricity bill by choosing LED Edge-Lit LCD.

For best picture quality within a budget, choose normal LCD or Plasma. Choose LED Edge-Lit LCD only if the slim form-factor is a 'must-have'.

My candidate for best 40" TV for about £400 is the Samsung LE40C580. £400 delivered from Amazon. Includes HD Freeview. Review here http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-le40c580-le32c580-20100728791.htm . 'Highly Recommended'.

Superb blend of picture quality & outstanding build quality. Glass stand, glass-effect bezel, metal rear casing, transparent bezel edging, red pinstripe at the base of the bezel. It oozes quality. Yes I do have one!

Unlike many TVs, there's no panel or processor lottery with the LE40C580. It has the Valencia processor & S-PVA panel... no subscribers to the C580 thread on AvForums have reported getting anything but the S-PVA panel so far this year.

I also bought that TV (42LE4500) yesterday too via the HUKD thread, ideal for wall mounting in our bedroom as it is super slim. Used the code and quidco and in my humble opinion, if you want to wall mount this one would be better. It's just perfect for our needs

It sure is a bargain as even on Amazon its £530+

PS: For those without Amex and just using quidco - Quidco tracks @ dead on £27 as it goes off the price excluding VAT (£337.49) making the TV£377.99

Another post about a TJ Hughes 'bargain' from Naturlee - you must work in their marketing department or something (if anyone's curious, check Naturlee's previous posts - 90% about TJ Hughes)

My Dad bought the TV in the OP from Amazon, for £361 delivered. It came yesterday, he installed it and said it is fab for the price!

He saw it in a TJ's mailer first, till I snatched it off him and googled for a better deal lol, that's the MSE in me! ;)
