Hi Lastkiss
I am very new to this site but wanted to say well done for posting I posted for the first time last week and its very nerve wracking.People on here are FANTASTIC and so supportive and I am finding it's just good to know that there are people who understand how it feels to be in debt as well as offering superb tips and ideas.
Good luck for tonight and keep us posted
Mandamoo:)Slowly getting out of debt and still studying :j0 -
Do you pay at all for water? as nothing is showing on your soa.
On your current mortgage is it based on your husband's and your income, if so that 'might' be a problem as you are on the sick, and your hubby currently is unaware of the money problems, so getting a remortgage could be a problem.
Are you claiming all the benefits you are entitled.?
Good luck with it all
Here in Scotland we have this already included in council tax bill.0 -
I don't even know where to begin to thank you all for your warm and encouraging words and advice, I am very very touched and already feel like I am not alone and can get through this. I have decided to take the advice to tell hubby, house is manic at the moment with kids but hopefully tonight when they are all in bed we will have a quiet moment and I will discuss it with him. Not looking forward to that, he is so hard working and tries so hard to give us all we need I know he will be devastated.
At the end of the day, like a lot of us on here, your situation will be born of a bit of careless spending, but a LOT of bad luck or circumstances beyond your control (in your case your ill health etc). Sometimes life deals up a crappy hand and beating yourselves up about it isn't going to get you anywhere - it sounds like you have a good relationship so at least once you've shared the burden you can support each other. Telling my OH about my debt was the hardest, but best thing I've ever done.
You've had some brill advice that I can't really add to at this stage, but I really hope it works out for you and good luck for telling hubby tonight. There's always someone about here to offer a word of comfort or support, or some sage advice. Stick around

STAY AWAY from the financial advisor,,,,please,,,it will cost you a lot of money and could long term cost you your house..go the one of the free debt charities who are not trying to make a living out of your situation as the advisor will be.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

Hi Lastkiss,
I don't know if this will help but I decided a while back I was going to slash my food bill. I was doing a "big shop" every week and I found that I was throwing loads away. So I changed the way I shop:
Firstly, I go to the shop every two or three days and only buy what I need to make the meals that I have planned in advance. I regularly buy fruit and veg - almost every day, and I use the local greengrocer. I've got quite friendly with him and he always knocks a little off the price because I'm now a regular.
Some might say that he's a little more expensive, but I find that his produce lasts longer than the supermarket, so it's worth it as I throw less away. He always has special offers on so I buy those things instead of what I would usually buy every week without thinking about it. It's quite exciting as you never know what's going to be on offer!
Secondly, I bulk out my meals with veg and things like lentils and barley. Quite cheap, but filling and good for you. Eg - Chilli con Carne, make with mince but bulked out with grated carrots and lentils is fab and only a quarter of the price if made only with mince. Batch cooking helps bring the cost per meal down too!
Thirdly, I went down a brand on as much as I could. Eg Asda Baked Beans instead of Heinz. This REALLY makes the difference. Some things I don't skimp on - life's too short for bad coffee! I use Tesco Clubcard Vouchers (which I get from being an Eon Customer) for buying special things so I can treat myself. Mr Tesco paid for a leg of lamb for today's main meal (and tomorrows AND Tuesdays!!!). For the majority of stuff, you won't notice the difference.
I reckon you could knock a good £150 per month off your groceries bill!
Good luck!

Hi there
You daughter shoild be entitled to all sorts of benefits once the baby arrives. Have you contacted Social Services? They shd be taking a special interest especially because of her age.
Have you seen a doctor recently? As you have had a lot to contend with esp since the bereavement I wouldn't refuse any medical help at all.

Thinking of you lastkiss, I felt the same last week, so emotional that people had taken the time and trouble to post, hope you get chance to speak to hubby tonight, you sound like a lovely couple and I'm sure you'll get through this. It has made me and DH closer now that we're dealing with things together, he can prob tell youre worrying about something and may be pleased to talk about it.
One thing I did last week was collect up a couple of broken gold braclets and took the to the jewellers, they were very thin and to be honest a bit crappy, no sentimental value, I got £120, still living off this this week, have you got any gold hidden in drawers? Might just help for the week.
Good luck with hubby and mortgage advisor, let us know how you get on x0
