Hi there,
So last night i got home from work to a hand delivered letter from bristow and sutor saying a bailiff had been to my house to recover goods for unpaid council tax.... all in all around £700.... this is the first letter ive received, from the council and from bristow and sutor.
I cant believe ive been so stupid, after graduating in the summer getting into hiddeous debt at uni I was determined to get everything back on track money wise, and the excitement and buzz of working through each debt (well at least setting up payment agreements for various things) made me completely forget about setting up the DD for my council tax after making the first two payments.
Now im petrified they are going to come and take my stuff.... now im more that happy to set up a payment plan and get this cleared asap, but after reading up on these guys im worried they arent going to go for that option. Ive sent them an email, but im just scared by time they respond that the bailiff will have been back to the flat.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.... i realise ive been a complete fool

That rather makes me wonder if it really was your debt those maggots were chasing, as all but the most remarkably inept councils would try sending in bailiffs before they had obtained a liability order.
Check with the council on Monday and try to set up a payment plan.I cant believe ive been so stupid, after graduating in the summer getting into hiddeous debt at uni I was determined to get everything back on track money wise, and the excitement and buzz of working through each debt (well at least setting up payment agreements for various things) made me completely forget about setting up the DD for my council tax after making the first two payments.
You should have received at least one reminder before the "pay up or else" letter.i realise ive been a complete fool
Then you're lucky, as some fools have some parts missing.0 -

This comment made me smile (which is very much needed atm) thanks for making a light note on the end
i will be contacting the council monday morning.... when you say it might be someone elses debt, it says my name on the bailiff letter could it still be possible that its someone elses debt? (i realise i still owe them money, but would be much easier if its just the council i need to deal with)

Unless you have a really unusual name, such as Fifi Peaches Trixi-bell Ding-dong Jones, it does seem possible that the bailiff has mixed you up for someone else.
It also seems odd that the council revenue department has not sent any reminder, nor even a "pay up or else" letter, or that you did not receive a summons from the local Magistrates' Court. Might they have been sent to the wrong address?0
