hi
ive been paying csa payments for almost 19yrs.
one child is now 23 and the other is 19 this aug.
i dont have any contact (long story and not relevant) so i dont know if they are working or not, until now that is.
even when the eldest turned 19 my payments have never altered.
anyway a couple of weeks ago i decided to do some digging, and found the youngest ones facebook page. it was obvious that he was not working or in education. unless he is learning to become a bookie or an alcoholic
so i contacted the csa and informed them this of this info .
i was told they would be in touch, give them there due they rang on thursday (only took 6 days). and told me that my case was being closed and should have closed on 14th dec 2009. today i received a letter saying confirming this, it states that accounts will look into how much i have overpaid and check if i have arrears. i did get stung with £2500 arrears when i first started almost 19yrs ago. so i reckon i overpaid by around 4 grand.
but looking online i see loads people im same position as me who have suddenly found they owe thousands. im worried this may be about to happen to me, and if so is it right that i cant do anything about it
also as i pay direct from my wage i wont even be able to cancel payments till they inform my works
also one other thing
was talking to a work colleague today. his children are 24 + 25 and he is still paying. csa told him he owes them money . and whats it for ???? they say he has to pay back all the money his wife claimed when on benefits . thisa cant be right , he also had the kids stay with him qute a few nights when they were young and the csa would not reduce his payments even though they should have.
he says he cant do anything about this. this is wrong. can you advise me on were to point him for help

If arrears were owed when the case was due for closure any NRP still has to pay them - so if his ex was on benefits and he hadn't paid what was due, he still has to pay until all arrears are paid - even if the children are in their forties or fifties!! Under the old rules, the children had to stay with the NRP for at least 2 nights per week to get any reduction, so even if they did stay sometimes, if it didn't work out as an average of 2 nights or more, there would be no reduction. If there was a dispute about it, then he could have appealed at the time.0

thanks for the reply
ill have a better chat with my mate tomorrow. but from what he said. he told the csa at the time that the kids were staying with him but they didnt want to know,
from what he says the reason he is still paying is not arrears on his behalf but to payback what his ex claimed in benefits
.
also with regards to my case, like i said i got letter yestreday saying case closed, but subject to any arrears, i was told there was over £2500 when i first started paying almost 19yrs ago. i think they stuck a fiver a week on the payments at the time. ive not had any statements for a while . think the last one was 2007 showing arrears nil. i also moved to new system in 2007 even though i was not informed about this. i only found this out when i phoned last week. i was also told that my eldest was taken out the picture at the same time when she became 19 .
my payments have remained the same even though 15% would work out less than what iam currently paying
what im worried about now is them coming back having plucked a false arrears amount from nowhere. and not being able to do anything about it0 -
I can't say that the CSA won't mess it up again, however, theirs is a standard response when a case is due for closure. They provisionally close the case subject to any unpaid arrears. You may be worrying about nothing, particularly as your last remembered statement stated there was no arrears on the account. I don't think there's much you can do atm until you receive their final confirmation of the state of your account.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. right here is an update on my case
as i said, csa siad they were closing my case based on what info i had told them on the phone
i had also overpaid by 16 months,
from ringing csa with info to getting a call back regarding closing case took 5 days
confirmation letter 2 days later.
tday ( 5 days after letter) i rang them to see what was happening with accounts and to tell them that money had again today been stopped from wages
i spoke to guy in accounts and he said any money taken from now will be refunded back to my bank, and he said my accounts were being worked on as we speak, he did confirm i had no arrears on account and that i could expect at least 16 months back pay , my calculations is around £4200. he seemed to think that was about right. reading some of the horror stories on here regarding people being slapped with false arrears worried me for a while
hopefuly tomorrow ill find out what im to get back, still wont be happy till i get the letter with details and money goes in the bank. but its a step closer
i still think i should have been paying less from 2007 when the eldest was taken out of the calculation and i was moved to csa 2, even though i wasn't informed of this. but i guess 16 months back pay will be ok
ill let you know when i get it in writing.
for the last 18yrs or so, this money around £62 a week, as come out of my wages, after a while you dont feel it , or you learn to live without it
it would have been worse if i had to go bank every week and pay it in.
so in a way you just get on with things and forget that its csa payments, untill it comes towards the end.
so its only now that ive been looking at forums like this to see if anyone else had problems when there cases ended with regards to getting money back etc, and its been a real eye opener reading how some people are being treated. especialy when people are willing to pay but are being told they have to pay thousands in arrears in one go or face being jailed or evicted.
i realy do feel sorry for people who are going through all this.
i guess ive been lucky in respect that my payments were affordable and the £2500 of arrears i had from day 1 were paid back with something like a fiver a week extra on top of payments.
this agency really does need regulating and they need to be stopped from making up there own rules,
having said that i would like to thank the staff at the Birkenhead office
yes i did say thank, over the last 2 weeks they have been real helpful and friendly. infact one guy on a helpline i rang couldnt help enough, and when i thanked him. he thanked me for being friendly and nice to him. so i guess its not all bad
to everyone still paying or just starting out on this rocky road, stick with it, i never thought it would end , but it has, well almost,0 -
CSA case closed 'yes' then CSA say I owe £2500 from 11-14 years ago, 'what'?
Hi. I have just had a phone call from the CSA saying I owe them money from 1998-2002? Gob smacked !
Background in brief: My daughter is 18 in July. The CSA case for her closed in Sept 2012 because she moved out of her home from her mum. She does not live with me and had the letter 'CSA case closed subject to any arrears or credit. OK then, I worked out they actually Owe me, BUT.
In Oct 2012, At first they asked me from £78 arrears owing NOW March 2013 this has gone up to over £2,500-£3000 from what they say a suspended payment back in 2000-2002.
I have always paid my way for my daughter all of her life, never missed a payment and has paid her more in extra bank payments for birthday etc to the sum of a £700 since case closed in Sept 2012. I was made redundant from the RAF late Nov 12.
The CSA payment they refer to was a over assessment back in 1998-2002 which was payments they were asking for of £100 per week and my salary was around £96-£200 averaging out for 1998-2002 period going through military training and paid minor rank pay.
Conversations with the CSA at this time were made and account was rectified and bought my balance to zero then made normal regular payments even though still high at the time of £283.00 per month at this time.
CSA now have told me they are sending a payment order in the post and MUST be paid. What can I do? Legal people 'Say something'
I'm currently ‘Unemployed’ Ex RAF serviceman made redundant in 2012 and have debts of my own. I live with my wife and step daughter aged 8.
Your advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated or if you do not or can not take this case please can you refer my to someone who might.
Now in March 2013 find myself, Made Redundant, Unemployed, Skint and owe money to this sham called CSA. I have never bowed down to bullies and never will whether it be in Iraq or Afghanistan and certainly not this so called CSA.
Many Thanks in advance.

Why didn't you start a new topic instead of tagging on markys?
Anyway you must go through your MP with this one then you will have a paper trail, less stress and your MP behind you.
Their assistants do much of the work. Phone them on Monday and they will phone the Parliamentary hotline. You need to ask for a complete account breakdown from day one and your DPA files. Then make an appointment to see your MP during their surgery time.
Phone the CSA back - get the case officer's name first and direct phone number- and inform them the matter is with your MP, all correspondence will be going through your MP and for them NOT to contact you by phone but by letter.
This is the only way to deal with this. I hope you still have all the paperwork.
Try to write everything down you need to inform the MP of what is going on.They can then start dealing directly with the CSA.0 -
Yes ok thx for info. I will act. Just sent letter to MP. Dint realise tagged on Markys thread, but will start own. Thanks again.0
