Panasonic Breadmaker measurements - please help!

Hello all!

After inspiration from this site I am now the proud owner of a Panasonic SD253 breadmaker!

I absolutely love it but I have one slight problem - it is so annoying that I have to weigh out the flour/butter etc (I am so lazy and hate the extra washing up!)

I used to have a breadmaker a few years ago and I'm sure all the measuring was done using the cup and spoons which came with it - why does this one now need scales?

Is there a way to convert the weight to cups? Has anyone done this with any success?

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Hmm, I certainly don't weigh my butter, but I do always weigh my flour. I never wash the bowl of the scales out though, a quick tap over the sink does it for me.

Not too much washing up there, in my opinion.

Cup measurement is not much better than guesswork as it depends on how compacted the flour is, whether you pour it into the cup, or scoop it and so on. I would always weigh my flour. The double-ended spoon used for salt, sugar and milk powder could easily be replaced with more traditional measures, but in reality, it doesn't take much to wipe it out after use.

I think if you want consistent bread, weighing is the way to go.

    Your mileage may vary.

    Regards,

    White.

I put the bread pan on the digital scales and go and add the flour there - takes 2 seconds to do
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j
  • Wow thank you for all your help!

I think you are probably right about the being a bit too lazy :o !

It was just really because my old maker only used the cup etc but then again it did make rubbish bread! :rotfl:

Thanks for the hint about putting pan on scales - will go and try that now - yum!

    Thanks again!

When I get a bag of breadflour I divide it into three 850ml Lock & Lock containers (so each one has 500g in). Then when I am in a hurry, I just grab one o fthe tubs and I know it has the right amount in.

 dannahaz, that's a good idea!

Also useful to prevent the flour getting humid and/or things crawling into it - after the flour has been kept in the deep freeze straight after buying it.

 ...Hmmm I might try ziplock/heat sealed bags!
