Confused And Stressed Out! Help!

i originally posted this in the "housing, buying, renting properties" forum, since, when i was reading one of the threads--it asked is this LEGAL-but it was about paying house rent? i wasn't in the right forum :) this is my first post here--actually second now:) i would like to thank lotta littlies and lynpower cuz they told me to post this here. i didn't know first what i was doing
so, my situation is: i owe my bank and credit/store cards a lot of money. i started processing with payplan, but haven't actually started paying them money--i promise to sort this out soon. my problem now is, a doorstep debt collector(from ?moorcroft)(for my mothercare store card) came to my house and said that i shoul make an agrement with him to pay him monthly. cuz if i don't, he said that he will take it to court. i asked him if i could pay by direct debit monthly or with a payment slip-that i will pay in the post office or in the bank. he said NO. he said he will come every month to my house to collect the payment. is this LEGAL? how can i solve this problem? please help! thank you very much in advance.

I think this is right, give him your Payplan Case Number, tell him you are on a DMP, and to put his request in writing.

By turning up on your doorstep he is attempting to bully you into paying, if he does it again, tell him you will report him for Debtor Harrasement as his visits are designed to cause you maximum embarresement.

The mere mention of Payplan is enough to get people off your back sometimes.

NEVER pay a creditor by Direct Debit as they will have control over how much you pay them and can take any amount in theory.

Another reason he may be pushing you into doorstep payment is that he is probably paid a percentage of the money he collects. If you pay in another manner - he gets nothing!

If you sort out the Payplan setup - that would ensure that the issues re how you pay is sorted and not a problem.
  • thank you very much for your replies guys! :) i will try and do my best to sort out my agreement with payplan as soon as possible so that these doorstep debt collectors wont bother me anymore! cheers!

Get their address, write to them and tell them you will not tollerate harrasement of this nature which is in breech of OFT Guildelines (a creditor/debt collector MUST inform you in advance of a visit) and ask them to refrain from visiting you until Payplan have sorted things out and contacted them.

You might find the mere mention of Payplan will be enough to give you some peace, it did with me and Credit Solutions working on behalf of MBNA.
