I have just checked my credit file and have noticed that i have a default since 2006. If a default letter was sent out i did not recieve it as i was living and working abroad from 2005 to 2010. Can i have the default removed?

Hi Simmy,

A default drops off someones credit file 6 years after it was applied. As it was 2006, it will be 2012 before it drops off your credit file. If you settle it, it'll be marked as such on your credit file.

It will not be removed for 6 years. Live with it for another year or so.

If you had paid it before you went abroad, you wouldnt have this problem.

If the default notice and notice of intention to file a default with the CRAs was sent to the address the creditor had on file for you, then there aren't really any grounds to have the default removed on the basis that you never saw it.
