Does anyone know what a Hot Toddy is and how to make it?
Is it a shot of Brandy or Whiskey in a hot drink?

Hope someone can put me out of my misery!
TIA

My mother used to make a coffee with a shot of whiskey, brown sugar, and double cream floated on top with a spoon to stop it sinking. Not sure if thats a hot toddy, but it was bloody nice!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" I understand it to be whisky, lemon juice and honey (hot obviously). I squeeze half a lemon, pour in a finger of Scotch, a spoonful of honey and hot water. Brilliant for colds;)0

I've always thought that it was whisky, lemon, sugar/honey and hot water, but this site has several variations (see right hand side)

Your right that was an irish coffee. But according to wikipedia a hot toddy is the same minus the cream:

I was in a posh garden centre and saw these in tins selling for an absolute fortune. So thought i'd make them for xmas presents. However as i'm not a drinker, i dont know what to use and i cannot remember what was in the tins.
Can someone please help me? Many thanks0 -
Hmmmmm, interesting. There are loads of ways to make a hot toddy but the ones I was bought up on were a specific recipe from the highlands.
You could make lovely hot toddy hampers............thats just given me an idea for presents of my own!
I use plenty of whiskey
, honey, cloves, juice of half a lemon and a smidge of ginger.
Yummmmm! Lovely!0 -
When I make a hot toddy, the only spice I use is ginger, so I've no idea what could be in the spice mix you saw. I suppose you could use the traditional mulled wine spices- cinnamon, cloves, ginger, but go easy on the cloves! Maybe also some dried lemon peel.0
