PC won't always connect to internet

The pc won't always connect, I need to switch the laptop off and then back on to get it to connect, it just says "acquiring network address".
It's not the router because the xbox or dsi connects straight away.
Any ideas?

A few more details will help here. For instance is the connection wired or wireless, what software / OS are you running etc?0
