Provident doorstep caller
Hi, I am new to the forum and am looking for some help with a problem from a very old debt with provident.
I had a loan with provident over 7 years ago and fell behind with payments and being a teenager at the time just thought it would just disappear and after a long time of avoiding the collector and ignoring letters it did seem to disappear until yesterday.
I had a lady with a minder of some sort knock on the door and ask which of these two weekly payments I could make to clear my debt, i couldn't believe it. I said that out of the two options it would have to be the £40 a month other than the £80 a month and she said that someone else would call in the next couple of days to arrange payment. She said I had to sign a appointment card to give permission which I stupidly did.
After she had gone I thought about it and thought i would look for my old letter as I kept lots of letters from other bad debts that I had paid and couldn't find anything in relation with this so I was worried that I could be asked to pay back more than what I owe. So i searched the web and realized this debt is statute barred as I haven't paid or corresponded with them in over 7 years.
I have sent them a statute barred letter (template from this forum) but I am worried about this appointment card I signed. Should I be? Should I just pay this back to keep them away?
Thanks in advance

Signing the appointment card should not be construed as acknoweldging the debt however it sounds strange that you were asked to sign something at all... Can you post exactly what it says on this card?
As long as 6 clear years have elapsed since the date of last payment/acknowledgement then the debt is definitely barred and even signing something now would not unbar it....0 -
Dont worry, if its statute barred, its statute barred, as far as i know, they can chase you but they cant take you to court.
If youre sure that you have not admitted to the debt in 6 clear years (5 in Scotland) then dont worry, and talk to them through the window when they come for the appointment, tell them yu have something seriously infectiousmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I see to recall provident very rarely go to court to collect...just have another statue barred letter to hand them when they knock and hand it out through the window....this is why they charge 2000%plus for loans..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
