CSA and self-employment?

Hi,

It looks like my fiance is going to become self-employed as courier/ window cleaner - not a business rather working for the courier companies that use self-employed owner/drivers - same with window cleaning.

So the money will be really start from £0 and hopefully build but could be up and down and not guaranteed week to week.

How do we do about this with the CSA? Having looked at JSA if he can he may claim JSA until working 16 hours and getting more than £93 per week - not totally sure he can do this but it seems like it.

We have a Shared Residence Order - LO spends 3 nights with us/ 4 nights with mother each week - all school holidays etc equal
She's a money grabber so want to make sure we do it right and she doesn't get more than she should!

First thing to do is contact the CSA and explain the circumstances - the NRP will be leaving employment to set out on their own. Initially a nil-assessment should be put in place, with the CSA looking to reassess after approx 3 - 6 months, once the business is up and running. Due to the shared care on the case it's likely that it may be band 4, which is half of the assessment, with an additional £7 taken off for 'abatement'.

The CSA may ask for proof of the nil-income, tell them to get in touch with the NRP's current employer, who will confirm his end-date.
