I got given a flyer from sotxtme.co.uk

Basically you give them your mobile number and tell them all the things you are interested in and they text you every now and again with adverts. Each text pays you 10-15p

I've not tried it (yet) but thinking this could be quite good - has anyone else tried this yet?

It's only for pre-pay mobiles and all they do is give you credit - no cash.

Sounds awful to be honest. I think we get enough junk mail without inviting more!

But, each to their own :-) Seems perfectly legitimate from having a look at it.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

I am on contract & signed up when they were launching in Manchester. I have received some offers which are actually quite decent, and also received the 15p per message which I applied to my monthly bill once I hit £2.50. Saved c. £30 on the offers and £3 on my phone bill in one month.

You could get a PAYG SIM which you ONLY use for this ... build up credit on it and then use that credit for text-betting to either cash in on an evens bet ... or increase it if you're a betting person.
  • Im pretty sure that if within 4 posts someone has thought of scamming/manipulating them then they too have already thought of that and erected a barrier against this! (no offence TUS, not trying to be cheeky). I would assume that there would be at stages of the services the requirement for the member to interact with the service in some capacity to verify that they are indeed actually interested in using that service properly - or at least that was my initial soultion.

TBH, iv never heard of these guys as they are just a start up i guess. I did a quick google search of the word 'sotxtme' and there are a few tidbits about them, but they do seem legit so i agree with mizzbiz. It looks like they can take bill or payg as i cant see anything about no Bill phones!! Seems like a perfect solution (student = no dough) for me so im quite excited about this. If the offers are decent like that other user sais they are then happy days and bring it on.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I read through the OPs post. BetNow do text betting but the odds are poor. From a quick google it looks as though totesport do it too. Rather than gambling, matched betting would be the best option for profit.

7th May 2011 - I've just tried to sign up and it says they're only running this in Manchester at the moment. But to sign up anyway if you live elsewhere in case they decide to widen their perimeters.
