Bayliff Visit Regarding Council Tax

Options
We have received a visit from a bayliff today who has demanded £652 for and the balance we owe the local council is £342.

They have levied a £200 charge for vehicle removal and are saying we have to pay this even if the vehicle is not removed and we pay outstanding balance

I should add the Car is worth well over £7k even by we buy any car.com and Im a self employed IT consultant. Basically No car no job !
Phoned bayliff to say I'll pay in 7 days but he's having none of it and is coming back later.

Help !!!!!!!

Given the urgency of the situation please read http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/ and maybe give them a ring. it is a premium number but they do know their stuff. You will note from the web-site that the bailiff is already breaking rules about giving reasonable time to make payments etc. Also PM Herbie21 as she may be able to respond here for free.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Definitely ring the bailiffs on line - but before you do contact your local council to find out the amount of the liability order. Make sure you have as much info as possible to hand.

When you are on the phone to the council also ask them how much fees have already been applied to the account. They should be able to tell you.

Don't let them in and don't sign anything and DON'T pay anything unless you know what the charges are for.

    Good luck

Having similar problems myself so know how you are feeling at the moment.

Does the car belong to you personally or do you have it as part of your T/A status?

Are there any goods that the bailiff cannot seize?
Bailiffs (except bailiffs acting on behalf of the magistrate's court - see below) cannot seize the following goods:
    • tools, goods, vehicles and other items of equipment necessary for use by you in your employment, business or vocation;
    • clothing, bedding, furniture, household equipment and provisions as are necessary for satisfying the basic domestic needs of you and your family
Is the car on any sort of finance?
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

    PRESS THANKS

I really need some more details?

Is this the 1st time you have heard of this?

You should have been informed by the council?

Can you pay the £342 now?

Is this the 1st visit from the bailiff?

What paperwork did he leave, a notice of seizure? and WPO?

Please put as much detail down on here as possible?

Please do not let him in to your house. Keep all dioors and windows shut. Do not call him unless you can record the call.

You will probably need to write to and ask them for a breakdown of charges, but I need more details before I can help you.
