Thanks for all these replies - its good to know that it doesn't sound like it will be too religious (and that we don't have to do as many as other people - I thought one day was bad, but obviously not!) It's not actually the priest doing our course - they have a company which does it for the whole area, which sounds different to everyone else too.
Banbury Bride - I look forward to hearing how you get on next Saturday. Please let me know. We're booked in on the 30th April, so far before the wedding as the priest has refused to discuss timings/hymns etc until we do the course, and we want to get our stationery sorted soon, which obviously we need these details for!
Twirlypinky - I love that story about the priest in the cinema. Brilliant! But yes, I will try to just go along with things on the day!Getting married 12/11/2011

Both myself and the OH are practising Christians and we did a weekend course called "Laugh your way to a better marriage" There was very little religious content and the course focussed on understanding each other and making sure that we were able to communicate more than anything else. I can't remember the guy's name but if you do a search, there's a few clips from this course (how men & women think differently) on You Tube and it was very funny and made a lot of sense.
One big thing for me was that if you ask a guy "What are you thinking?" and he says "Nothing" he is probably telling the truth!
All the best - hope it goes well, Wiggy xx0 -
It'll be fine! With all the preparations we put into weddings, it's sometimes easy to forget that a happy marriage is what really matters! All the best0

i'm getting married in a catholic church to and also did the marriage preparation course (with Accord) we did one thursday evening and a whole day saturday.
my OH was in a similar situation to you, i'm the religious one, he was brought up catholic but doesn't go to church very often. he really really didn't want to do the course but to get married to me in church he went with me.
it wasn't very pushy of religion (although i've heard it depends on the priest who takes that part of the course) but more about preparing the couple for married life, understanding each other and talking through all aspects of married life that you might not have discussed yet.
it was actually nice as it gave me and the OH time for ourselves and we did some group work with other couples but alot of it was talking to each other.
my OH also said it wasn't as bad as he expected, he also commented that the bit with the priest was actually very good ..... gobsmacked me that did :rotfl:
it's worth going into it with an open mind, the course was even better than i thought and your doing something that's important for your partner and it will give you both some time away from normal surroundings and time just for you.0 -
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know of any non-religious marriage preparation courses in London?0
