royal wedding pay

can my boss refuse to pay me for the upcoming royal wedding bank holiday,he says i can take leave costing me one days holiday or i can have it unpaid or if i would rather go in and work as usual then i could do that.
I do not have a written contract just a verbal been there 8 years and holiday entitlement was 25days per year plus bank holidays..

i thought if i get paid holiday pay for bank holidays then i would be entitled to the royal wedding bank holiday to.

Bank holidays are normal working days these days. Without an actual written contract it is hard to argue what is and isnt included. Your employer might argue you only get 33 days per year and you must take holiday on bank holidays.

TBH you get 5 days more than most so I wouldnt really be arguing it. Are you planning to spend the whole day watching the wedding?
  • no, wasn't planning on watching it,but already booked holiday for that week thinking that i would only use 3 days of my entitlement now it appears i now need to book off Friday as well.

If your contract says 33 days including bank holidays then your boss can make you take it out of the 25 days worth of holiday. If it says 25 days plus all bank holidays then you should be allowed it as an extra day.

However as you have no written contract proving its the latter and not the former is impossible and as mentioned as you have 33 days which is 5 days more than statutory you need to think carefully about kicking up a fuss
