Reclaiming my money that went to the wrong account

When I'm transferring a significant amount I always do a 'test' small amount first to ensure I've got the account details correct. It's far too easy to key in wrong account details.0

Absolutely! I am very aware that even numbers and codes that appear right may result in the funds disappearing, so a transfer of £1 confirms the data is correct.
Indeed I found paying my utility bill my payment bounced back as invalid. EDF happily took the funds I sent for 7 years previously, but this one failed. Looking at my bill, the details of the recipient bank had changed, but did they tell me?
The £1 test helps everyone!0 -
Did any of you get your money returned? If yes what is the correct procedure?0

Nah, these people never bother responding with the outcome.
And neither will you.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -
I am in a very similar situation as above. An error has been made and a substantial sum of my money has been paid into the wrong account. It appears to be my fault, but I have had very little help from either the bank transferring the money or my bank (where the money should be). I know the account number of the person and the sort code is the same as mine, so assumable the same branch. I have written, phoned, secure messaged my bank but to no avail. I have been advised to seek help from a solicitor - which would cost me to get my own money back!
Does anyone know of the correct procedure, and has anyone above been successful in getting their money back?0 -

The "correct" procedure is to transfer the money to the correct account. If you send it to someone else, you are reliant upon the recipient returning it. A solicitor cannot really help in any meaningful way and could end up costing you even more money.
