Wedding Dresses For Sale - How To Get Noticed?

Hello,
I have recently set up my own Wedding Dress business selling new, sample and immaculate once worn dresses in Doncaster. Many of my dresses are only £99 and are lovely (if I say so myself!)
My question is how do I reach ladies in my area who are on a budget for their wedding but want to look their very best. I don't have alot of money and advertising is very expensive - any ideas?
Thank you

Local paper or on eBay ~ like you already do?

  • Ebay is ok but you can never tell what you will get for a dress or if it will sell - and I am wary as I have had a few bad experiences with dodgy fake buyers in the past. I have tried the local press but it is expensive for a small advert that only runs once.

shop windows , or print leaflets and get someone to push them through letter boxes or hand them out. Do a wedding fair local to you. Ask florists etc to give out leaflets for you.

advertise some of the dresses in the for sale section of the local paper . Many brides on a small budget would look there thinking thats all they can afford but would happily buy new one if they saw one there .

Not sure if facebook advertising would work for you (I know you dont have much money to advertise but you could check it out and see what it costs.) I recently got engaged and when I changed my status on FB to engaged I started getting loads of ads popping up on my screen when Im on it with wedding dress stockists, venues etc etc. Its targetted advertising so might be quite good (I will admit Ive actually visited a few of the websites so assuming others do too it could be worth a try.) Im sure you can specify areas, age ranges etc etc

You could also set up a blog and an etsy shop and see where that takes you. Providing you tag things properly you might get hits from it.

I am not very computer literate but would the preloved site work for you? Here is a page from the Leeds area, http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.listadverts/sec-Home+and+Family/cat-Marriage/subcat-Wedding+Clothes+and+Bridal+Wear/keyword-wedding+dress/e7ad2b64.html

If you are not already a member of Freecycle/Freegle then join the Freecycle/Freegle Cafe (where people chat about things, and mine also allows you to publish your business details). It looks like you have a Freegle Cafe rather than Freecycle one in Doncaster. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Doncaster-Freegle-Cafe/
How about mutual advertising with relevant businesses (cake shops etc), or maybe leaving cards with a cake stand at a local farmers market.

As a bride that was looking for a cheap dress, just make sure that all your ads include the right words so they show up in a google search.

I looked on Preloved. A lot of brides looking for a cheap dress actually know the one they want, they just can't afford it new, so make sure your add includes the designer and the name/number of the actual dress. I used to put in my search "justin alexander 8520" because i specifically wanted that one.
